Scored for a film set between Egypt and Ferrara dealing with then-taboo themes of interracial romance, the music slides effortlessly between dusty desert atmospheres, soul-jazz grooves and bittersweet lounge. You get wah-wah guitar and Fender Rhodes riding over tight rhythm sections, sensuous flutes and strings for the more romantic cues, and a few tracks that flirt with rawer funk.
