“Lingo” è il quarto album degli Almamegretta, pubblicato nel 1998.
Con "Lingo", gli Almamegretta tornano a dimostrare perché sono una delle band più iconiche e trasversali del panorama musicale italiano. Attivi dagli anni ’90, i partenopei guidati da Raiz (anche se in alcuni progetti recenti ha lasciato spazio a vari featuring) ci regalano un lavoro che è insieme un viaggio sonoro, una dichiarazione culturale e una riflessione identitaria.

“Lingo” – che in napoletano significa “lingua” – è un album che mette al centro l’ibridazione culturale, il potere della parola e la ricerca delle radici. Le tracce si muovono tra dub pesante, reggae classico, influenze elettroniche e ritmi mediterranei, contaminati da sonorità nordafricane, ritmi afrobeat e suggestioni trip-hop. Un lavoro che conferma l’approccio “glocale” della band: locale per le radici, globale per le visioni.
Sul piano della produzione, "Lingo" è raffinato e coerente. La band riesce ancora una volta a fondere l’analogico con il digitale in modo fluido. L’uso del dub delay, del riverbero e delle stratificazioni ritmiche restituisce l’atmosfera sognante e ipnotica che da sempre caratterizza gli Almamegretta.
Le liriche affrontano tematiche sociali, spirituali e esistenziali. C’è la denuncia delle disuguaglianze, il racconto di un Sud che lotta ma non si arrende, e anche una forte riflessione sull’identità e sulla migrazione, vissuta come esperienza umana, politica e sonora.
"Lingo" è un disco maturo, consapevole e coraggioso. Gli Almamegretta non inseguono le mode, ma seguono un percorso coerente e profondamente personale, fatto di contaminazioni, lotta e spiritualità. È un album da ascoltare con attenzione, magari in cuffia, per coglierne tutte le sfumature.

With "Lingo", Almamegretta returns to demonstrate why they are one of the most iconic and transversal bands on the Italian music scene. Active since the 90s, the Neapolitans led by Raiz (although in some recent projects he has left room for various featurings) give us a work that is together a sound journey, a cultural declaration and an identity reflection.

"Lingo" - which in Neapolitan means "language" - is an album that focuses on cultural hybridization, the power of the word and the search for roots. The tracks move between heavy dub, classic reggae, electronic influences and Mediterranean rhythms, contaminated by North African sounds, afrobeat rhythms and trip-hop suggestions. A work that confirms the "glocal" approach of the band: local for the roots, global for the visions.

In terms of production, "Lingo" is refined and consistent. The band once again manages to merge the analog with the digital in a fluid way. The use of dub delay, reverberation and rhythmic stratifications restores the dreamy and hypnotic atmosphere that has always characterized the Almamegretta.

The lyrics address social, spiritual and existential issues. There is the denunciation of inequalities, the story of a South that fights but does not give up, and also a strong reflection on identity and migration, lived as a human, political and sound experience.

"Lingo" is a mature, conscious and courageous record. The Almamegretta do not chase fashions, but follow a coherent and deeply personal path, made of contamination, struggle and spirituality. It's an album to listen to carefully, maybe with headphones, to grasp all its nuances.
